Roll-off dumpster rental in Bethel
Approx. 7 road miles south of the yard, around 18 minutes.
Bethel is approx. 7 road miles south of the yard, around 18 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Town's rules for the job. Bethel is a town of 20,358 at the 2020 Census, and HRRA is its solid waste and recycling authority.
Bethel is the town nearby with a code chapter written for roll-offs. Chapter 52 (Dumpsters, 1991) defines a construction container as an open-top roll-off of up to 30 cubic yards and restricts placing one on one- and two-family residential property: it needs the Building Official's approval and a written permit, issued for no more than 30 days, renewable once for another 30 days for good cause, and the container comes out when the permit ends (§§ 52-1 to 52-6). The chapter doesn't say whether the homeowner or the hauler applies, so we check the Town's rules before booking. We read it as a summary from the Town's online code host, so it's paraphrased here.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Bethel
Knowing a town properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Written permit for homes — a construction container on one- or two-family residential property needs the Building Official's approval and written permit (§§ 52-3, 52-5).
- 30 days, one renewal — a permit runs no longer than 30 days and may be renewed once for another 30 days for good cause (§ 52-6).
- Up to 30 yards — the chapter defines a construction container as an open-top roll-off of up to 30 cubic yards (§ 52-1).
- No garbage or recyclables — a permitted container may not hold recyclable materials or garbage (§ 52-4).
- No debris in the road — debris from any source may not be put on a public roadway or right-of-way (§ 83-3).
- No construction debris at the town station — the Bethel Transfer Station, Route 53 at 1 Sympaug Park Rd, is for Bethel residents with a permit.
What comes out of Bethel properties
Bethel's Transfer Station is plain about remodel debris: “Please Note: No construction debris is accepted at the Bethel Transfer Station.” HRRA's Bethel page lists demolition as not accepted and keeps bulky items to four feet in any dimension. Under Chapter 52, a container at a home holds no garbage or recyclables (§ 52-4) — it's for the remodel, the roof or the clean-out. Small clean-outs and yard debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium remodels and flooring a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing jobs and renovations a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs or construction a 30 (about 9); and demolition and commercial jobs a 40 (about 12). As a rough guide, a kitchen remodel is a 10 or a 15, a roof of around 2,000 square feet a 15, a whole-house clean-out a 20, and new construction or demolition a 30 or a 40. Concrete, brick and asphalt go in limited quantities, and heavy materials such as concrete, dirt and roofing shingles are best kept separate to stay inside the weight limit. HRRA describes construction and demolition waste as “Demolition materials and packaging resulting from construction, remodeling, repair and demolition operations”, leaving out asbestos, clean fill, radioactive material, hazardous waste and large quantities of liquids. The standard rental period is up to 7 days. Need longer? Call or text to extend it for a small daily fee. Finished early? Call and we'll move the pickup up if we can — there's no penalty for an early pickup.
What goes in: household junk and furniture; construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding; yard waste including branches, grass and soil; roofing shingles; metal, plastic, cardboard and packaging; and concrete, brick or asphalt in limited quantities. What doesn't: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, and asbestos or hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Connecticut law backs up two of them: no one may knowingly put a covered electronic device, such as a computer, monitor or TV, in a solid waste facility (CGS § 22a-636), and a used battery may not go in mixed municipal solid waste (§ 22a-256g(a); DEEP reads it as the lead-acid storage battery). If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Connecticut guide covers the rest. Mattresses, paint and electronics have their own HRRA programs — see hrra.org or call HRRA on 203-775-4539.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Bethel
Dumpster permit — read this first: Bethel's Chapter 52, adopted by the Board of Selectmen on 22 July 1991, restricts placing a dumpster or construction container on one- and two-family residential property in town (§ 52-2). Placement needs the Building Official's approval, and the container may not block vehicle or pedestrian traffic or be loaded so its contents spill into the street or sidewalk (§ 52-3). Permits are in writing from the Building Official, who issues one where the applicant shows reasonable need (§ 52-5); none runs longer than 30 days, one may be renewed for another 30 days for good cause, and the container comes out when the permit ends (§ 52-6). The Building Official may revoke a permit for false statements, misuse or not following the chapter (§ 52-7). The chapter doesn't say who applies, and we found no fee in it. We read it as a summary from the Town's online code host, so it's paraphrased. We check the Town's rules before booking a container in Bethel — the Building Department is 203-794-8577.
Who may haul: Bethel's Chapter 94 has collectors register with the Town for a permit, with the business name and address on the door of each vehicle, and deliver acceptable waste to the transfer station HRRA designates (§§ 94-2, 94-3); that's a summary too. Connecticut has every collector register each year in each town it hauls solid waste from (CGS § 22a-220a(d)(1)) — a collector being “any person who holds himself out for hire regularly to collect solid waste” (§ 22a-220a(g)) — and “The door of any private vehicle used to haul solid waste shall be clearly marked with the business name and address of the hauler” (§ 22a-220a(e)). This town is one of the 14 members of HRRA, the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority, a public regional authority (CGS § 7-273aa). HRRA's registration form says “Registration with the HRRA is deemed registration in the municipality”, and its hauler policy says “All Haulers must clearly display the name of the company on each vehicle and/or roll-off container operating in the municipality.” We're licensed & insured.
In the street: no one may place debris from any source onto a public roadway or right-of-way (§ 83-3), with a $100 fine (§ 83-5A), and the Chapter 52 permit covers residential property, not the street. We found no town rule for a container on a town road; we check with Public Works before a street placement. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as the container is accessible and the area is clear. Our smaller containers are driveway-friendly — about 8 feet wide and about 12 feet long for a 10-yard, up to about 22 feet long for a 20-yard and larger — and our drivers use protective boards or padding when necessary to help prevent driveway damage. Once it's placed, please don't move it; call us and we'll reposition it.
State highways: Route 53 runs past the Town's Transfer Station. Connecticut law says no one may “place any obstruction or substruction within, under, upon or over” a state highway without the written permission of the Commissioner of Transportation (CGS § 13a-247(a)), with fines of $2,000 to $5,000 for each offense and each day a separate one (§ 13a-247(d)). So a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-84, US-7, US-202, CT-133 or any other state route — beside one, it goes on private property.
Covered loads: Connecticut bars driving a vehicle that isn't built or loaded to keep its load “from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping” (CGS § 14-271(a)), and a refuse truck of 5,000 lb or more carrying an open-top container secures the contents with “a screen or other material having perforations of a size not greater than two square inches” (§ 14-271(c)). Keep debris level with or below the top rim — overfilled containers can't be transported safely.
Remodel or tear-down: Connecticut's Department of Public Health says “All facilities from sheds to commercial establishments are covered under” the state's asbestos regulations, and that under the federal rules notice applies above set thresholds for renovations “and for all demolitions, even when there is no asbestos present.” Check the current notice requirements with the DPH Asbestos Program, (860) 509-7367, before work starts. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Bethel
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address and the town - the rules follow the town the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the right size, without upselling, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town needs a permit or its own registration, we check its rules before booking.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep debris level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paints, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, electronics, propane tanks, tires, medical waste and asbestos. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call or text.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule the pickup, often within 24 hours. The load goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities serving Fairfield County, and whenever possible concrete, metal and wood are separated for recycling.

Not covered here? Call (475) 256-5131 and ask.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Bethel?
At a one- or two-family home, yes.
