Roll-off dumpster rental in Southbury
Approx. 19 road miles east-northeast of the yard, around 29 minutes.
Southbury is approx. 19 road miles east-northeast of the yard, around 29 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked with the Town. Southbury is a town of 19,879 at the 2020 Census, in New Haven County.
Southbury isn't an HRRA member, so HRRA registration doesn't count here. In July 2022 the Town repealed the code sections on commercial permits and hauler vehicle registration, yet the code still says “Each business is required to contract a municipally registered collector” (§ 8-73(a)), and state law still has every collector register each year in each town it hauls from (CGS § 22a-220a(d)(1)). We found no Southbury form, office or fee for that registration, so we check with the Town before booking.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Southbury
Knowing a town properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Not an HRRA town — HRRA registration doesn't cover Southbury.
- Sections repealed in 2022 — an ordinance of 22 July 2022 took out the sections on commercial permits, vehicle markings and hauler vehicle registration.
- Registered collectors still named — residents and businesses use a municipally registered collector (§§ 8-72, 8-73(a)).
- Uncontained waste is a nuisance — any uncontained pile of solid waste over one cubic foot on a property (§ 8-52(b)).
- Residents-only Transfer Station — 231 Kettletown Rd, Tuesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; permits are free and for Southbury residents only.
- Special permit for demolition — residents or their contractors need one to bring construction and demolition waste to a local waste facility (§ 8-21(c)).
What comes out of Southbury properties
Southbury's Transfer Station takes brush and clean demolition material only, every piece four feet or shorter, priced by the cubic yard, and “Residential permittees or their contractors who wish to use a local waste facility to dispose of construction and demolition waste must apply for a special permit”, naming the project's location, type and scope (§ 8-21(c)). Meanwhile “Any uncontainerized accumulation of solid waste more than one (1) cubic foot in volume on any premises is hereby declared to be a nuisance and is prohibited” (§ 8-52(b)) — so on a remodel, the debris belongs in a container. Small clean-outs and yard debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium remodels and flooring a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing jobs and renovations a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs or construction a 30 (about 9); and demolition and commercial jobs a 40 (about 12). As a rough guide, a kitchen remodel is a 10 or a 15, a roof of around 2,000 square feet a 15, a whole-house clean-out a 20, and new construction or demolition a 30 or a 40. Concrete, brick and asphalt go in limited quantities, and heavy materials such as concrete, dirt and roofing shingles are best kept separate to stay inside the weight limit. HRRA describes construction and demolition waste as “Demolition materials and packaging resulting from construction, remodeling, repair and demolition operations”, leaving out asbestos, clean fill, radioactive material, hazardous waste and large quantities of liquids. The standard rental period is up to 7 days. Need longer? Call or text to extend it for a small daily fee. Finished early? Call and we'll move the pickup up if we can — there's no penalty for an early pickup.
What goes in: household junk and furniture; construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding; yard waste including branches, grass and soil; roofing shingles; metal, plastic, cardboard and packaging; and concrete, brick or asphalt in limited quantities. What doesn't: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, and asbestos or hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Connecticut law backs up two of them: no one may knowingly put a covered electronic device, such as a computer, monitor or TV, in a solid waste facility (CGS § 22a-636), and a used battery may not go in mixed municipal solid waste (§ 22a-256g(a); DEEP reads it as the lead-acid storage battery). If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Connecticut guide covers the rest. Southbury's household hazardous waste is handled through NVCOG, per the Town's recycling page.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Southbury
Who may haul — we check with the Town first: the code's editor's notes say an ordinance of 22 July 2022 repealed § 8-22, on commercial permits, and §§ 8-27 to 8-29, on vehicle markings, vehicle registration and haulers' responsibilities. The code still says “Each business is required to contract a municipally registered collector” (§ 8-73(a)), residents either use the municipal drop-off center or “contract a municipally registered collector” for recyclables (§ 8-72), and a refuse collector is “any person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of collecting and transporting commercial, household or industrial solid waste for hire within the town” (§ 8-17). Connecticut has every collector register each year in each town it hauls solid waste from (CGS § 22a-220a(d)(1)) — a collector being “any person who holds himself out for hire regularly to collect solid waste” (§ 22a-220a(g)) — and “The door of any private vehicle used to haul solid waste shall be clearly marked with the business name and address of the hauler” (§ 22a-220a(e)). Southbury isn't an HRRA member, and we found no Southbury registration form, office or fee, so we check with the Town before booking — the First Selectman's office is (203) 262-0600. We're licensed & insured.
Delivering and spills: each refuse collector delivers residential refuse collected in town wherever the First Selectman designates and reports non-residential recyclables to the Town quarterly (§ 8-74(a)), and “Refuse collectors shall clean up solid waste that may spill when being carried or transferred” (§ 8-53(e)).
In the street: Southbury's street permit is for an “opening, aperture or excavation” in the right-of-way (§ 15-71); owners keep sidewalks clear of “any other obstruction of any nature which would in any way impede or imperil public travel upon the sidewalk” (§ 15-3(c)); and no vehicle may be parked so as to obstruct traffic or hamper snow plowing (§ 13-16(1)). We found no town rule for a container on a town road; we check with Public Works before a street placement. Southbury Public Works is 203-262-0622. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as the container is accessible and the area is clear. Our smaller containers are driveway-friendly — about 8 feet wide and about 12 feet long for a 10-yard, up to about 22 feet long for a 20-yard and larger — and our drivers use protective boards or padding when necessary to help prevent driveway damage. Once it's placed, please don't move it; call us and we'll reposition it.
State highways: Connecticut law says no one may “place any obstruction or substruction within, under, upon or over” a state highway without the written permission of the Commissioner of Transportation (CGS § 13a-247(a)), with fines of $2,000 to $5,000 for each offense and each day a separate one (§ 13a-247(d)). So a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-84, US-7, US-202, CT-133 or any other state route — beside one, it goes on private property.
Covered loads: Connecticut bars driving a vehicle that isn't built or loaded to keep its load “from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping” (CGS § 14-271(a)), and a refuse truck of 5,000 lb or more carrying an open-top container secures the contents with “a screen or other material having perforations of a size not greater than two square inches” (§ 14-271(c)). Keep debris level with or below the top rim — overfilled containers can't be transported safely.
Remodel or tear-down: Connecticut's Department of Public Health says “All facilities from sheds to commercial establishments are covered under” the state's asbestos regulations, and that under the federal rules notice applies above set thresholds for renovations “and for all demolitions, even when there is no asbestos present.” Check the current notice requirements with the DPH Asbestos Program, (860) 509-7367, before work starts. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Southbury
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address and the town - the rules follow the town the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the right size, without upselling, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town needs a permit or its own registration, we check its rules before booking.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep debris level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paints, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, electronics, propane tanks, tires, medical waste and asbestos. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call or text.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule the pickup, often within 24 hours. The load goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities serving Fairfield County, and whenever possible concrete, metal and wood are separated for recycling.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Southbury — common questions
Not covered here? Call (475) 256-5131 and ask.
Can I get a roll-off in Southbury?
Yes. We check with the Town before booking, because Southbury repealed its hauler registration sections in 2022 but its code still refers to municipally registered collectors, and it isn't an HRRA town. Call (475) 256-5131 with the address and the job.
Can my contractor take debris to the Southbury Transfer Station?
Only with a special permit: residents or their contractors apply for one to bring construction and demolition waste, naming the project's location, type and scope (§ 8-21(c)). Station permits are for Southbury residents only.
Can I pile debris in the yard before it goes?
Not for long. Southbury's code calls any uncontained pile of solid waste over one cubic foot on a property a nuisance (§ 8-52(b)). A container keeps it contained.
How far is Southbury from your yard?
Approx. 19 road miles east-northeast, around 29 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked with the Town.
