If you have never rented a dumpster, read this first. It covers the whole process from the phone call to the pickup, with the Danbury, HRRA and Connecticut specifics that national guides leave out.

Whether you are replacing a roof, remodeling a kitchen, running a job site or clearing out a whole property, most projects make more waste than people expect. A roll-off puts it all in one place instead of trip after trip to a disposal site: faster cleanup, a safer job site, less labor and fewer runs. Around Danbury it matters more than you might think. Household trash here is a private subscription service, not a City pickup, and the town stations are resident drop-offs that take little or no construction debris: Bethel accepts none, Newtown takes no concrete, mortar, brick or block, and Ridgefield says projects over 4 cubic yards should use an onsite dumpster. Remodels, roof tear-offs, estate cleanouts, landscaping and demolition fill a box quicker than a trailer.
You call, tell us about the project and the type of debris, and we recommend the right size and give you a clear flat-rate price. Once it is confirmed, we schedule delivery, often the same day or next day when availability allows. You load it at your own pace during the rental period, keeping everything level with or below the top rim. When you are done, call or text us and we schedule pickup, often within 24 hours. You do not need to be present for pickup as long as the dumpster is accessible and the area is clear.
Our yard is at 243-247 Federal Rd in Brookfield, on Federal Rd (US-202) just north of Danbury; the US Census geocoder places it in the Town of Brookfield. Danbury had 86,518 people at the 2020 Census and Brookfield 17,528. We are locally owned, and the approx. road distance from the yard to Danbury is 6 miles, around 11 minutes.
Start with the job, then check the weight. A 10 yard, about 12 feet long, suits small remodels, garage cleanouts, yard debris and small heavy jobs. A 15, about 14 feet, suits mid-size renovations, flooring and deck removal. The 20, 30 and 40 share a length of about 22 feet and get taller: the 20, our most requested size, for multi-room renovations, roofing and yard cleanups; the 30 for full-house cleanouts, construction and demolition; the 40 for commercial construction and large demolition. All are about 8 feet wide. Weight limits run from 2–3 tons on a 10 up to 5–6 tons on a 40, depending on the debris. The sizing guide has the full table.
In Danbury, the City sets the local rules: hauler registration (§ 36-116), City registration plates (§ 36-81), street obstructions (§ 28-55), work in the right-of-way (§ 42-111) and truck hours (§ 28-53). We found no City curbside trash collection; the Highway Division runs a bi-annual Leaf Pick Up Program, and Public Utilities oversees a public yard waste centre on Plumtrees Road. Across the region, HRRA, the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority, describes itself as "a regional, governmental, waste management and recycling authority serving fourteen municipalities in western Connecticut", created under CGS § 7-273aa. Its members are Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Sherman, Weston and Wilton. Monroe, Southbury and Woodbury are not members.
The State sets the baseline: every hauler registers each year in each town it collects in (CGS § 22a-220a(d)), loads must be secured (§ 14-271), batteries and covered electronics have their own disposal rules (§§ 22a-256g and 22a-636), and nothing goes in a state highway right-of-way without CT DOT's written permission (§ 13a-247). That is why a roll-off for a remodel, a roof, a move-out or a job site is booked with the address in hand and the town's rules checked first.
Driveway first. In Danbury, City Code § 28-55 bars placing anything that obstructs public travel on a highway, street, sidewalk or public place without a permit from the City Engineer, and § 42-111(2) requires a Public Works permit for "The temporary storage of equipment or construction materials" in City highways and rights-of-way. Neither names dumpsters, and we found no dumpster-specific permit or fee, so for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Bethel is the exception the other way: a roll-off at a one- or two-family home needs a written Building Official permit even on the property (Ch. 52). Outside Danbury, we found no town rule for a container on a town road; we check with Public Works before a street placement. State highway right-of-way, including I-84, US-7, US-202 (Federal Rd), US-6, CT-25, CT-37 and CT-133, needs CT DOT's written permission (CGS § 13a-247), so we never place there. The permit guide covers every town.
Connecticut law says any collector hauling solid waste generated within a municipality "shall register annually in such municipality" (CGS § 22a-220a(d)(1)), and "The door of any private vehicle used to haul solid waste shall be clearly marked with the business name and address of the hauler" (§ 22a-220a(e)). A roll-off company is a collector under the statute's definition (§ 22a-220a(g)). Danbury requires collectors to register annually with the City (§ 36-116(a)) and to display City registration plates on each vehicle or container (§ 36-81(a)). In HRRA's 14 member towns, HRRA's registration form says: "Registration with the HRRA is deemed registration in the municipality", one town at a time, and HRRA policy says: "All Haulers must clearly display the name of the company on each vehicle and/or roll-off container operating in the municipality."
Bethel and Monroe have their own container rules, and Southbury's hauler rules are unclear, so we check the Town's rules before booking there. Woodbury requires a Town licence plus a registration for each vehicle or container. The permit guide has the sections. We're licensed & insured.
In: household junk and furniture; construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding; cabinets and fixtures; roofing shingles; yard waste including branches, grass and soil; metal, plastic, cardboard and packaging; and concrete, brick or asphalt in limited quantities, within the weight limit. Out: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, oil and fuel, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos, hazardous chemicals and anything holding refrigerant. Connecticut law backs two of those: used batteries may not go in mixed municipal solid waste (CGS § 22a-256g(a)), and covered electronic devices may not be knowingly placed in a solid waste facility (§ 22a-636). The full guide says what to do with each instead.
The CT Department of Public Health's Asbestos Program says: "All facilities from sheds to commercial establishments are covered under the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies asbestos regulations." On the federal side, DPH notes that notification applies at set thresholds for renovations "and for all demolitions, even when there is no asbestos present". DPH's abatement notice and an older DEEP checklist give different timings, so check the current rule with the DPH Asbestos Program before a demolition or a large tear-out starts.
In Danbury, a building demolition needs a City demolition permit through the Permit Center, and on any construction site "Property owners and general contractors in charge of a construction site are jointly and severally required to furnish approved containers for construction litter" (City Code § 36-24(c)). Asbestos never goes in our roll-offs. If an older home may have it, have it checked before the tear-out starts.
All waste is taken to licensed disposal and recycling facilities serving Fairfield County, and whenever possible, materials such as concrete, metal and wood are separated for recycling to reduce landfill impact. Every load on the road is secured so nothing drops, sifts, leaks or escapes (CGS § 14-271(a)), and HRRA policy adds: "All materials must be securely contained in the vehicle. Littering or leaking shall be considered a violation of the permit."
Keeping a clean concrete or brick load apart from household junk helps, because clean loads are easier to recycle, and yard waste is best kept separate from household trash or construction debris.
The rules change once you leave Danbury. Next door are Brookfield (pop. 17,528; approx. 3 road miles), Bethel (20,358; 7), New Fairfield (13,579; 10) and Bridgewater (1,662; 7). To the south and east are Newtown (27,173; 12), Ridgefield (25,033; 15), Redding (8,765; 13) and Monroe (18,825; 18). To the north are New Milford (28,115; 12), Sherman (3,527; 15), Roxbury (2,260; 14), Southbury (19,879; 19), Woodbury (9,723; 23) and Kent (3,019; 25). Populations are 2020 Census counts and miles are approx. road miles from our yard. See the service area, or the Danbury page for home.
Spread materials evenly, break bulky pieces down, and keep everything level with or below the top rim: overfilled dumpsters cannot be transported safely. If you need more space, we arrange a swap or an additional container. Need more time? Call or text to extend for a small daily fee; finish early and there is no penalty for an early pickup. Contractors can ask about pre-scheduled pickups and swaps, multiple dumpsters with staggered deliveries, and invoicing. In Danbury, commercial truck activity may not start before 7 a.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m. on Saturday or 10 a.m. on Sunday, nor run after 8 p.m. (§ 28-53(e)(1)); we plan drop-offs and pickups for the daytime and do not promise night or Sunday service.
To book, call (475) 256-5131 — the phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Have the address, the material and a rough quantity ready, and call early for the best chance of same-day service. We accept all major credit cards, business checks and electronic payments, with no deposits.
