The 10 yard container in Danbury

The 10 yard is the one we send when the job is one room, one garage or one weekend. At about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide it is the smallest container we run, so it suits driveways, alleys and tight residential spaces - a narrow drive in an older Danbury neighborhood, a short driveway in Bethel, a lot in Brookfield with not much room to spare. It holds about 10 cubic yards, roughly three pickup truck loads.

Homeowners, DIY projects and small contractors use it most: a bathroom or small kitchen remodel, flooring or tile coming up, a garage or attic cleanout, yard debris, a minor roof repair. The included weight on a 10 is typically up to 2 to 3 tons, depending on the material. If you plan to load concrete, dirt or roofing shingles, tell us when you book and we help you plan the load so it stays within the limit.

Space needed

a flat, solid spot about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), with clear access for the truck at delivery and pickup and nothing blocking a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain

Small remodels, cleanouts and yard debris

A bathroom remodel - tile, tub, vanity, a bit of drywall - sits comfortably in a 10 yard. So does a single garage or attic cleanout, a flooring or carpet job, a small landscaping or yard cleanup, a minor storm cleanup or a handyman job. Roofers use it for single-layer tear-offs on small roofs, and realtors use it to clear a house before a listing. The 3.5-foot sides make it easy to load by hand.

It suits the area because the public options are built for small household loads. The town transfer stations are resident drop-offs, not a home for a big job's debris. Bethel's takes no construction debris; Newtown's bars commercial vehicles and does not take concrete, mortar, brick or block; Redding's is for Redding residents only, with no commercial dumping; Roxbury bars collectors from bringing demolition debris (§ 11-10(A)(6)); Southbury's permits are for residents only; and Woodbury turns away businesses from outside town. Ridgefield's own page says residential projects over four cubic yards "should be managed with an onsite dumpster rental at the job site". Anything more than a trunk-load of remodel debris is what a 10 yard on the driveway is for.

The weight line on a 10 yard

The included weight on a 10 yard is typically up to 2 to 3 tons, and your quote states it. Household junk rarely gets close. A 10 filled with dirt, concrete or shingles can, so keep heavy material to limited quantities, spread it evenly and tell us it is coming. Keep debris level with or below the top rim - an overfilled dumpster cannot be transported safely. If a load runs over the included weight, the overage is billed at a per-ton rate we tell you up front. The flat rate covers delivery and pickup, disposal within the weight limit and a standard rental period of up to 7 days. On the road, Connecticut requires every load to be built or loaded so none of it drops, sifts, leaks or escapes (CGS § 14-271(a)), and an open-top refuse container on a refuse truck of 5,000 lb or more has to be secured with a screen or other material with openings no bigger than two square inches (§ 14-271(c)).

Suitability

Is the 10 yard the right size for you?

Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.

Choose the 10 yard for

  • Bathroom and small kitchen remodels
  • Garage and attic cleanouts
  • Flooring, tile and carpet removal
  • Yard debris and light tree trimming
  • Minor roofing, with the weight checked first

Pick a different size for

  • A whole-house cleanout - that is a 20
  • Big, bulky loads of furniture (you run out of room first)
  • Paint, oil, fuel, chemicals, batteries or electronics
  • Tires, propane tanks, asbestos or medical waste

Placing a 10 yard container in Danbury

It needs a flat, solid spot about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), with clear access for the truck at delivery and pickup and nothing blocking a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain. The driveway comes first. On a Danbury street, § 28-55 bars placing "any article, material or thing of any kind" on a street, sidewalk or public place so as to obstruct public travel without a permit from the City Engineer, and § 42-111(2) needs a Public Works permit for the temporary storage of equipment or construction materials in a City right-of-way. Neither section names dumpsters, and we found no dumpster-specific permit or fee. So the driveway comes first, and for a street placement we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. In Bethel, a construction container at a one- or two-family home needs a written Building Official permit (Code Ch. 52), so we check the Town's rules before booking. Outside Danbury we found no town rule for a container on a town road, so we check with Public Works before a street placement. Ridgefield bars placing building material or anything else on a sidewalk so it blocks free passage (§ 310-2), and Bethel bars placing debris on any public roadway or right-of-way (§ 83-3). Connecticut law bars placing any obstruction within, under, upon or over a state highway "without the written permission of the commissioner" of Transportation (CGS § 13a-247), with fines of $2,000 to $5,000 for each offense and each day counted separately, so a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-84, US-7, US-202, CT-133 or any other state route. Check any HOA rules too. Protective boards can go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

10 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked

Not covered here? Call (475) 256-5131 and ask.

How much space does a 10 yard dumpster need?

The container is about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide. Pick a flat, solid spot such as a driveway or pad, keep clear access for the truck at delivery and pickup, and avoid blocking a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain. Move cars and bins out of the way, and mark the spot if you will not be home. In Bethel, a construction container at a one- or two-family home needs a written permit from the Building Official, so we check the Town's rules before booking.

Can I put concrete in a 10 yard dumpster?

In limited quantities, yes. Concrete, brick and asphalt are heavy, so they are best kept separate from household junk and loaded within the weight limit. Tell us roughly how much there is when you book and we help you plan the load so you avoid an overage.

How long do I get it for?

A standard rental period of up to 7 days, confirmed on your quote. Need more time? Call or text and we extend it for a small daily fee. Finished early? Call and we move the pickup up if we can, with no penalty for an early pickup.

How much does a 10 yard dumpster cost?

Typical dumpster rentals in Danbury range from $295 to $695, depending on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the delivery location and the length of the rental. The 10 yard is our most affordable size. We do not publish per-size prices: you get one flat-rate quote for your address, with no hidden pickup, fuel or delivery fees.
