Roll-off dumpster rental in Monroe

Approx. 18 road miles southeast of the yard, around 33 minutes.

Monroe is approx. 18 road miles southeast of the yard, around 33 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Town's rules for the job. Monroe is a town of 18,825 at the 2020 Census.

Monroe isn't one of HRRA's 14 member towns, so registering with HRRA doesn't count here. Its own Chapter 452 has each refuse collector get a Town licence every year by 1 January, plus a separate registration for each vehicle — and where a vehicle carries more than one container, for each container instead (§ 452-3A, B). Each registered container carries the collector's name and phone number in letters at least four inches high (§ 452-3F), and no one may collect refuse between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. (§ 452-8I). We check the Town's rules before booking.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Monroe

Knowing a town properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Town licence — refuse collectors get a Monroe licence every year, on or before 1 January (§ 452-3A).
  • Each container registered — a separate registration for each vehicle, or for each container where a vehicle carries more than one (§ 452-3B).
  • Name and phone in 4-inch letters — on each registered vehicle or container (§ 452-3F).
  • No collecting overnight — refuse collection between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. is unlawful (§ 452-8I).
  • Not an HRRA town — HRRA registration doesn't cover Monroe.
  • Dial-A-Dump excludes remodel debris — the Town's once-a-year bulky pickup doesn't take tile, shingles, sheetrock, insulation, concrete or stone.

What comes out of Monroe properties

Monroe's spring and fall Dial-A-Dump pickup is by appointment — “Residents are allowed one pickup only per calendar year” — and it won't take “Demolition materials (ceramic tiles, asphalt shingles, sheetrock, insulation, concrete or stone)” or lumber longer than four feet. The Trumbull Transfer Station at 101 Spring Hill Rd, which Monroe's code designates for its refuse, takes demolition materials by weight, but not rocks, dirt or lumber over four feet. A remodel, a roof or a clean-out is container work. Small clean-outs and yard debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium remodels and flooring a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing jobs and renovations a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs or construction a 30 (about 9); and demolition and commercial jobs a 40 (about 12). As a rough guide, a kitchen remodel is a 10 or a 15, a roof of around 2,000 square feet a 15, a whole-house clean-out a 20, and new construction or demolition a 30 or a 40. Concrete, brick and asphalt go in limited quantities, and heavy materials such as concrete, dirt and roofing shingles are best kept separate to stay inside the weight limit. HRRA describes construction and demolition waste as “Demolition materials and packaging resulting from construction, remodeling, repair and demolition operations”, leaving out asbestos, clean fill, radioactive material, hazardous waste and large quantities of liquids. The standard rental period is up to 7 days. Need longer? Call or text to extend it for a small daily fee. Finished early? Call and we'll move the pickup up if we can — there's no penalty for an early pickup.

What goes in: household junk and furniture; construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding; yard waste including branches, grass and soil; roofing shingles; metal, plastic, cardboard and packaging; and concrete, brick or asphalt in limited quantities. What doesn't: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, and asbestos or hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Connecticut law backs up two of them: no one may knowingly put a covered electronic device, such as a computer, monitor or TV, in a solid waste facility (CGS § 22a-636), and a used battery may not go in mixed municipal solid waste (§ 22a-256g(a); DEEP reads it as the lead-acid storage battery). If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Connecticut guide covers the rest. In Monroe, the Town's Garder Road Landfill, 211 Garder Rd, takes brush, appliances, tires, scrap metal and electronics on Fridays and Saturdays.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Monroe

Who may haul — we check first: Monroe's Chapter 452 says each refuse collector must get a licence every year, on or before 1 January, to engage in refuse collection in the Town (§ 452-3A), and a separate registration for each vehicle — and when a vehicle carries more than one container, each container needs the registration instead (§ 452-3B). Registrations last up to a year (§ 452-3C) and are displayed on the left front of each vehicle or container (§ 452-3E), and each registered vehicle or container shows the licensee's name and phone number in letters at least four inches high (§ 452-3F). Collecting or transporting refuse in Monroe without the licence and registrations is unlawful (§ 452-8B), with fines of up to $100 for each offense (§ 452-10). The code doesn't name the office that issues the licence. We read the chapter as a summary from the Town's online code host, so it's paraphrased. Monroe isn't an HRRA member, so HRRA registration doesn't count here. Connecticut has every collector register each year in each town it hauls solid waste from (CGS § 22a-220a(d)(1)) — a collector being “any person who holds himself out for hire regularly to collect solid waste” (§ 22a-220a(g)) — and “The door of any private vehicle used to haul solid waste shall be clearly marked with the business name and address of the hauler” (§ 22a-220a(e)). We check the Town's rules before booking a container in Monroe — Public Works is 203-452-2814. We're licensed & insured.

Hours and covered loads: collecting refuse between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. is unlawful (§ 452-8I), and open-top vehicles are covered when moving so refuse can't escape (§ 452-8C).

The right-of-way: the Town's Right-of-Way page asks “Did you know the Town actually owns the small piece of property between the edge of the road and your actual property line?” No work on a public highway, which includes Town right-of-way, starts until a contractor has a permit from Public Works (§ 308-3A); whether setting down a roll-off counts as work isn't stated. We found no town rule for a container on a town road; we check with Public Works before a street placement. Driveway first. You don't need to be home as long as the container is accessible and the area is clear. Our smaller containers are driveway-friendly — about 8 feet wide and about 12 feet long for a 10-yard, up to about 22 feet long for a 20-yard and larger — and our drivers use protective boards or padding when necessary to help prevent driveway damage. Once it's placed, please don't move it; call us and we'll reposition it.

State highways: Connecticut law says no one may “place any obstruction or substruction within, under, upon or over” a state highway without the written permission of the Commissioner of Transportation (CGS § 13a-247(a)), with fines of $2,000 to $5,000 for each offense and each day a separate one (§ 13a-247(d)). So a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-84, US-7, US-202, CT-133 or any other state route — beside one, it goes on private property.

Covered loads: Connecticut bars driving a vehicle that isn't built or loaded to keep its load “from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping” (CGS § 14-271(a)), and a refuse truck of 5,000 lb or more carrying an open-top container secures the contents with “a screen or other material having perforations of a size not greater than two square inches” (§ 14-271(c)). Keep debris level with or below the top rim — overfilled containers can't be transported safely.

Remodel or tear-down: Connecticut's Department of Public Health says “All facilities from sheds to commercial establishments are covered under” the state's asbestos regulations, and that under the federal rules notice applies above set thresholds for renovations “and for all demolitions, even when there is no asbestos present.” Check the current notice requirements with the DPH Asbestos Program, (860) 509-7367, before work starts. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any. Monroe's Building Demolition page links the state's demolition notification form, which asks for the demolition waste hauler and disposal facility.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Monroe

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town - the rules follow the town the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, without upselling, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town needs a permit or its own registration, we check its rules before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep debris level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paints, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, electronics, propane tanks, tires, medical waste and asbestos. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call or text.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule the pickup, often within 24 hours. The load goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities serving Fairfield County, and whenever possible concrete, metal and wood are separated for recycling.

Local answers

Dumpster rental in Monroe — common questions

Not covered here? Call (475) 256-5131 and ask.

Can I get a roll-off in Monroe?

Yes. We check the Town's rules before booking a container in Monroe, because its code wants a yearly Town licence and a registration for each container, and Monroe isn't an HRRA town. Call (475) 256-5131 with the address and the job.

Does Monroe's bulky pickup take remodel debris?

No. Dial-A-Dump doesn't take demolition materials such as ceramic tile, asphalt shingles, sheetrock, insulation, concrete or stone, or lumber longer than four feet, and it's one pickup per household per calendar year.

Is HRRA registration enough in Monroe?

No. Monroe isn't an HRRA member, so its own Chapter 452 licence and registrations apply. We check the Town's rules before booking.

How far is Monroe from your yard?

Approx. 18 road miles southeast, around 33 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows, once we've checked the Town's rules.
