The 15 yard container in Danbury

The 15 yard is the middle ground: too much job for a 10, not enough for a 20. Kitchen and bathroom renovations, garage and attic cleanouts, flooring, carpet or drywall replacement, deck removal, small remodeling jobs and yard or storm cleanups are the classic fits. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads.

At about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide it gives you more room than a 10 without taking over the driveway, and it fits most driveways around Danbury, Brookfield and Bethel. The lower sidewalls make it easy to load, which is why homeowners tackling weekend projects and contractors who need flexibility both use it.

Space needed

a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), with clear access for the truck at delivery and pickup and nothing blocking a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain

Kitchens, floors, decks and yards

A kitchen makes more debris than people expect: by the time the cabinets, the countertops and the drywall are out, a 10 is tight and a 15 is right. Flooring jobs are the same - carpet, pad and laminate are bulky, and tile is dense, so watch the weight. Roofing tear-offs fit too, but shingles are heavy: tell us about the roof and we check the weight before you book. Break deck boards and posts down so they load flat and save space. Furniture, mattresses and appliances can go in alongside.

Yard work fits as well: branches, soil and leaves from a cleanup or a storm. Keep yard waste separate from household trash and construction debris where you can, because it goes to green waste facilities. Brookfield residents can take yard refuse to the Town's Yard Refuse Disposal Center on Pocono Rd on Saturdays from April to December, with a free permit - a 15 on the driveway is for the job that is bigger than a few car loads.

Weight on a 15 yard

Most 15 yard rentals include typically 2 to 3 tons, depending on the debris type. Roofing shingles and tile reach that quickly; cabinets, drywall, carpet and furniture rarely do. If more than half the load is dense, call us first, because a 10 yard may save you an overage. Load evenly and keep everything level with or below the top rim. The flat rate covers delivery and pickup, disposal within the stated weight limit and a standard rental period of up to 7 days, and extensions are available for a small daily fee. No surprise surcharges or fuel fees.

Suitability

Is the 15 yard the right size for you?

Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.

Choose the 15 yard for

  • Kitchen and bathroom renovations
  • Garage and attic cleanouts
  • Flooring, carpet and drywall replacement
  • Deck removal
  • Yard cleanups and storm debris

Pick a different size for

  • Whole-house cleanouts - go to the 20
  • Loads that are mostly tile, concrete or dirt (a 10 may be better)
  • Paint, chemicals, oil, propane tanks or tires
  • Asbestos, batteries or electronics

Placing a 15 yard container in Danbury

It needs a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), with clear access for the truck at delivery and pickup and nothing blocking a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain. The driveway comes first. On a Danbury street, § 28-55 bars placing "any article, material or thing of any kind" on a street, sidewalk or public place so as to obstruct public travel without a permit from the City Engineer, and § 42-111(2) needs a Public Works permit for the temporary storage of equipment or construction materials in a City right-of-way. Neither section names dumpsters, and we found no dumpster-specific permit or fee. So the driveway comes first, and for a street placement we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. In Bethel, a construction container at a one- or two-family home needs a written Building Official permit (Code Ch. 52), so we check the Town's rules before booking. Outside Danbury we found no town rule for a container on a town road, so we check with Public Works before a street placement. Ridgefield bars placing building material or anything else on a sidewalk so it blocks free passage (§ 310-2), and Bethel bars placing debris on any public roadway or right-of-way (§ 83-3). Connecticut law bars placing any obstruction within, under, upon or over a state highway "without the written permission of the commissioner" of Transportation (CGS § 13a-247), with fines of $2,000 to $5,000 for each offense and each day counted separately, so a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-84, US-7, US-202, CT-133 or any other state route. Check any HOA rules too. Protective boards can go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

15 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked

Not covered here? Call (475) 256-5131 and ask.

How big is a 15 yard dumpster?

About 14 feet long, 8 feet wide and 4.5 feet high. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads.

Will it fit in my driveway?

Most likely - it fits most driveways, and the driveway is where it should go. Keep clear access for the truck and do not block a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain. The street is the fallback, not the plan: on a Danbury street a City Engineer permit is needed to place anything that obstructs public travel (§ 28-55), and elsewhere we check with Public Works before a street placement.

Can I keep it longer than the standard period?

Yes. The standard rental period is up to 7 days, and we extend it for a small daily fee - just call or text.

What is the weight limit?

Typically 2 to 3 tons, depending on the debris type. Dense materials such as roofing shingles and tile can hit that fast, so call for a quick estimate and we help you plan the load.

Can I mix materials?

Light household debris can usually be mixed. Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt or roofing shingles are often best kept separate to stay within the weight limit. Anything on our not-allowed list - paint, oil, fuel, chemicals, tires, batteries, electronics, asbestos, medical waste - stays out.
