The 30 yard container in Danbury

The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 8 feet of ground as the 20 - the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of bulky or mixed debris but the site has no more room: a full home or office renovation, commercial remodeling or construction, new home construction, roofing and re-roofing, a major cleanout or estate project, demolition, multi-unit or apartment renovations, or large landscaping and property redevelopment. It holds about 30 cubic yards, roughly nine pickup truck loads, and fits most residential and commercial properties.

The walls are about six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Contractors, construction companies and property managers with a crew do not mind, and it means fewer hauls on a busy site; a homeowner working alone may prefer a 20 and a swap.

Space needed

a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), with clear access for the truck at delivery and pickup and nothing blocking a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain

Big renovations, estates and job sites

Taking several rooms back to the studs fills a 30 in a hurry: drywall, framing, cabinets, flooring and fixtures. Estate and full-house cleanouts land here too - furniture, fixtures and large household items - and so do office and retail remodels, multi-unit turnovers and large landscaping jobs with soil and debris. Sort a few things first: paint, oil, fuel, batteries, electronics, tires and anything hazardous stay out. Tell us what is in the building and we talk through where those go.

Bigger jobs bring state paperwork. Connecticut's Department of Public Health says "All facilities from sheds to commercial establishments are covered" by the state asbestos regulations, and its page notes that federal notice rules apply to renovations above set amounts and to "all demolitions, even when there is no asbestos present". Check the current timing with DPH before work starts. Asbestos never goes in our roll-offs. In Danbury, property owners and general contractors in charge of a construction site must furnish approved containers for construction litter, and the litter goes into them at the end of each workday (§ 36-24(c)).

Weight, swaps and long jobs

Typically 4 to 5 tons is included, depending on the debris type. The 30 is built for bulky materials such as wood, drywall, roofing and mixed construction waste; dense material such as concrete can hit the tonnage before the container is full, so stage heavy debris separately and ask us for the most cost-effective size. The flat rate covers delivery and pickup, disposal within the stated weight limit and a standard rental period of up to 7 days. Jobs that run longer go on daily extensions or swap-outs, and long-term rentals and multi-bin projects qualify for discounted pricing.

Suitability

Is the 30 yard the right size for you?

Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.

Choose the 30 yard for

  • Full home and office renovations
  • Estate and full-house cleanouts
  • Commercial remodeling and roofing
  • New home construction and demolition
  • Multi-unit and apartment renovations

Pick a different size for

  • Mostly concrete, brick or dirt - a 10 or 15 manages the weight better
  • Paint, fuel, solvents and other hazardous material
  • Batteries, electronics and tires
  • Asbestos and medical waste

Placing a 30 yard container in Danbury

It needs a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), with clear access for the truck at delivery and pickup and nothing blocking a sidewalk, mailbox or storm drain. The driveway comes first. On a Danbury street, § 28-55 bars placing "any article, material or thing of any kind" on a street, sidewalk or public place so as to obstruct public travel without a permit from the City Engineer, and § 42-111(2) needs a Public Works permit for the temporary storage of equipment or construction materials in a City right-of-way. Neither section names dumpsters, and we found no dumpster-specific permit or fee. So the driveway comes first, and for a street placement we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. In Bethel, a construction container at a one- or two-family home needs a written Building Official permit (Code Ch. 52), so we check the Town's rules before booking. Outside Danbury we found no town rule for a container on a town road, so we check with Public Works before a street placement. Ridgefield bars placing building material or anything else on a sidewalk so it blocks free passage (§ 310-2), and Bethel bars placing debris on any public roadway or right-of-way (§ 83-3). Connecticut law bars placing any obstruction within, under, upon or over a state highway "without the written permission of the commissioner" of Transportation (CGS § 13a-247), with fines of $2,000 to $5,000 for each offense and each day counted separately, so a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-84, US-7, US-202, CT-133 or any other state route. Check any HOA rules too. Protective boards can go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked

Not covered here? Call (475) 256-5131 and ask.

Is a 30 yard too big for a house?

For a regular cleanout, often yes - a whole-house cleanout usually fits a 20. For a full-house renovation or a large estate cleanout, no - that volume arrives faster than people expect. Tell us the job and we will say which.

Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?

Yes. When it is full we haul it and bring an empty one, and contractors with ongoing work can set up scheduled rotations.

How much weight is included in a 30 yard?

Typically 4 to 5 tons, depending on the debris type. A 30 full of tile, dirt or concrete can pass that well before it reaches the top rim, so we plan heavy loads with you during the quote.

Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?

It depends on where it sits and which town you are in. In Bethel, a construction container at a one- or two-family home needs a written permit from the Building Official (Code Ch. 52), so we check the Town's rules before booking. Each town page says what that town asks for.
