Roll-off dumpster rental in Danbury

Our yard is at 243-247 Federal Rd on Federal Rd (US-202) in Brookfield, just north of Danbury — in the Town of Brookfield, Fairfield County, by the US Census geocoder. Central Danbury is approx. 6 road miles southwest, around 11 minutes.

Danbury is our main market. The yard is at 243-247 Federal Rd, on Federal Rd (US-202) in Brookfield, just north of Danbury: the US Census geocoder puts it in the Town of Brookfield, about 0.37 miles in a straight line from the US-7 expressway, 0.70 miles from CT-133 and 1.82 miles from I-84. Central Danbury is approx. 6 road miles southwest, around 11 minutes. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call before noon for the best chance of same-day.

Danbury is a city of 86,518 at the 2020 Census, and we found no City curbside trash service: HRRA says “Garbage and recycling collection in the region is provided by private subscription service with a solid waste hauler chosen by the resident.” The City Code covers who hauls and where a container sits. Collectors register with the City every year (§ 36-116(a)), and placing “any article, material or thing of any kind” on a street, sidewalk or public place so it obstructs travel takes a permit from the City Engineer (§ 28-55). Neither section names dumpsters, and we found no dumpster-specific permit, so it's driveway first — and for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking.

How we reach Danbury

Central Danbury is approx. 6 road miles southwest of the yard, around 11 minutes, down US-7 or US-202. Same-day or next-day when availability allows; call before noon for the best chance of same-day. The phone is answered 24/7, and we plan drops and pickups inside the City's hours for commercial truck activity: not before 7 a.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m. on Saturday or 10 a.m. on Sunday, and not after 8 p.m. (§ 28-53(e)(1)).

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Danbury

Knowing a town properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • The yard is next door — 243-247 Federal Rd, on Federal Rd (US-202) in Brookfield, just north of Danbury (Census geocoder).
  • Collectors register yearly — every collector hauling solid waste generated in the City registers with the City each year (§ 36-116(a)); Danbury is an HRRA member town.
  • Plates for vehicles and containers — registered collectors get City registration plates for each vehicle or container used in collection (§ 36-81(a)).
  • Street spots need a look — anything that obstructs travel on a street or sidewalk takes a City Engineer permit (§ 28-55), and temporary storage of equipment or construction materials in the right-of-way a Public Works permit (§ 42-111(2)).
  • Truck hours — no commercial truck activity before 7 a.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m. Saturday or 10 a.m. Sunday, or after 8 p.m. any day (§ 28-53(e)(1)).
  • Job-site containers — owners and general contractors furnish approved containers for construction litter and fill them by the end of each workday (§ 36-24(c)).

What comes out of Danbury properties

Danbury's own definitions show where a container fits. The waste the City sends to its designated transfer station leaves out “nonburnable construction materials and demolition debris (but home remodeling waste and debris in reasonable quantities are not considered ‘demolition debris’)” and any item more than six feet long in any dimension (§ 36-77), and HRRA's Danbury page says bulky waste, construction and demolition material is not accepted at the residents' drop-off. On a building site, the owner and general contractor have to furnish approved containers and get the day's litter into them by the end of each workday (§ 36-24(c)). Small clean-outs and yard debris fit a 10 (about 3 pickup loads); medium remodels and flooring a 15 (4 to 5 loads); roofing jobs and renovations a 20 (about 6); large clean-outs or construction a 30 (about 9); and demolition and commercial jobs a 40 (about 12). As a rough guide, a kitchen remodel is a 10 or a 15, a roof of around 2,000 square feet a 15, a whole-house clean-out a 20, and new construction or demolition a 30 or a 40. Concrete, brick and asphalt go in limited quantities, and heavy materials such as concrete, dirt and roofing shingles are best kept separate to stay inside the weight limit. HRRA describes construction and demolition waste as “Demolition materials and packaging resulting from construction, remodeling, repair and demolition operations”, leaving out asbestos, clean fill, radioactive material, hazardous waste and large quantities of liquids. The standard rental period is up to 7 days. Need longer? Call or text to extend it for a small daily fee. Finished early? Call and we'll move the pickup up if we can — there's no penalty for an early pickup.

What goes in: household junk and furniture; construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring and siding; yard waste including branches, grass and soil; roofing shingles; metal, plastic, cardboard and packaging; and concrete, brick or asphalt in limited quantities. What doesn't: paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries and electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, and asbestos or hazardous chemicals — that's our own list. Connecticut law backs up two of them: no one may knowingly put a covered electronic device, such as a computer, monitor or TV, in a solid waste facility (CGS § 22a-636), and a used battery may not go in mixed municipal solid waste (§ 22a-256g(a); DEEP reads it as the lead-acid storage battery). If you're unsure about something, call before it goes in. Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Connecticut guide covers the rest. Mattresses, paint and electronics have their own HRRA programs — see hrra.org or call HRRA on 203-775-4539. For yard waste, the City's Public Utilities Division oversees a public yard waste center on Plumtrees Road, and the Highway Division runs a leaf pickup each spring and fall.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Danbury

Who may haul: “In accordance with the provisions of C.G.S. § 22a-220a(d), any collector hauling solid waste generated by residential, business, commercial or other establishments in the City shall register annually with the City on forms prescribed by the manager” (§ 36-116(a)), and the code counts demolition debris as solid waste (§ 36-77). During registration, each collector gets City registration plates, displayed “on the left front portion of the body of each vehicle or container to be used by the collector in the collection and transportation of solid waste” (§ 36-81(a)). Danbury is also an HRRA member town, and HRRA's form says “Registration with the HRRA is deemed registration in the municipality.” The code text is the City's Municode edition, codified through 2 May 2023. We're licensed & insured.

In the street: “No person without a permit from the City Engineer shall place, keep or knowingly suffer to remain, any box, bale, case, barrel, bundle, package, goods, ware, merchandise, cart, carriage, vehicle, lumber, refuse matter, rubbish, earth or stones, or any article, material or thing of any kind or description upon highway, street, sidewalk or public place in said City, so as to obstruct, interfere, or cause inconvenience to public travel” (§ 28-55). Work in City highways and rights-of-way also needs a written Public Works permit for “The temporary storage of equipment or construction materials” (§ 42-111(2)). Neither section names dumpsters, and we found no dumpster-specific permit or fee. Driveway first; for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. The Permit Center is 203-796-1653, and the Public Works Director and City Engineer 203-797-4537. You don't need to be home as long as the container is accessible and the area is clear. Our smaller containers are driveway-friendly — about 8 feet wide and about 12 feet long for a 10-yard, up to about 22 feet long for a 20-yard and larger — and our drivers use protective boards or padding when necessary to help prevent driveway damage. Once it's placed, please don't move it; call us and we'll reposition it.

Trucks and hours: commercial vehicles — over three-fourths-ton capacity or over 10,000 lb gross combination weight, whichever is less — may not park or stand on a street in a residential zone between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. (§ 46-121); that rule is about vehicles, not a container set on a driveway. The noise code bars “Commercial construction, commercial truck activity, demolition, excavation and building operations before 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, before 8:00 a.m. Saturday, before 10:00 a.m. Sunday, and after 8:00 p.m. any day” (§ 28-53(e)(1)), so our drops and pickups stay inside those hours.

Construction sites: “Property owners and general contractors in charge of a construction site are jointly and severally required to furnish approved containers for construction litter. All litter from construction and related activities shall be containerized and shall be picked up and placed in the approved containers at the end of each workday” (§ 36-24(c)). And no truck may move in the City unless it's “so constructed or loaded so as to prevent any load, contents or litter from being blown or deposited upon any street, alley, or other public place” (§ 36-80(c)).

State highways: I-84, US-7, US-202 and CT-37 (Pembroke Rd) are state routes in Danbury, which is in CT DOT District 4 (permit office (203) 591-3627). Connecticut law says no one may “place any obstruction or substruction within, under, upon or over” a state highway without the written permission of the Commissioner of Transportation (CGS § 13a-247(a)), with fines of $2,000 to $5,000 for each offense and each day a separate one (§ 13a-247(d)). So a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-84, US-7, US-202, CT-133 or any other state route — beside one, it goes on private property.

Covered loads: Connecticut bars driving a vehicle that isn't built or loaded to keep its load “from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping” (CGS § 14-271(a)), and a refuse truck of 5,000 lb or more carrying an open-top container secures the contents with “a screen or other material having perforations of a size not greater than two square inches” (§ 14-271(c)). Keep debris level with or below the top rim — overfilled containers can't be transported safely.

Remodel or tear-down: Connecticut's Department of Public Health says “All facilities from sheds to commercial establishments are covered under” the state's asbestos regulations, and that under the federal rules notice applies above set thresholds for renovations “and for all demolitions, even when there is no asbestos present.” Check the current notice requirements with the DPH Asbestos Program, (860) 509-7367, before work starts. Asbestos never goes in our containers — tell us if an inspection finds any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Danbury

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address and the town - the rules follow the town the property is in - what you are clearing, whether a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard or a job site, what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, without upselling, so you do not pay for space you will not use or call for another pickup, and you get one clear flat-rate price that covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size. If your town needs a permit or its own registration, we check its rules before booking.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on flat, solid ground rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep debris level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out - paints, solvents and automotive fluids, fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, electronics, propane tanks, tires, medical waste and asbestos. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call or text.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full or the job is done and we schedule the pickup, often within 24 hours. The load goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities serving Fairfield County, and whenever possible concrete, metal and wood are separated for recycling.

Dumpster rental in Danbury — common questions

Not covered here? Call (475) 256-5131 and ask.

Do you deliver dumpsters in Danbury?

Yes. Danbury is our main market, and the yard is just north of it on Federal Rd (US-202) in Brookfield. We place on the driveway first; for a street spot, we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking. Call (475) 256-5131 with the address and the job.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Danbury?

We found no City permit written for dumpsters. On a street or sidewalk, City Code § 28-55 requires a City Engineer permit to place anything that obstructs travel, and § 42-111(2) a Public Works permit for temporary storage of equipment or construction materials in the right-of-way. Neither names dumpsters, so we put the container on your driveway, and for a street spot we check the City's rules and the placement with you before booking.

How fast can you deliver in Danbury?

Same-day or next-day when availability allows. Central Danbury is approx. 6 road miles from the yard, around 11 minutes. Call before noon for the best chance of same-day; the phone is answered 24/7. Drops and pickups stay inside the City's truck hours (§ 28-53(e)(1)).

How much does a dumpster cost in Danbury?

Typical dumpster rentals range from $295 to $695, depending on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the delivery location and the length of the rental. Our pricing is flat rate: one clear price before delivery, with no hidden pickup, fuel or delivery fees. Call (475) 256-5131 for a quote.

Can remodel debris go to the residents' drop-off in Danbury?

No. HRRA's Danbury page says bulky waste, construction and demolition material is not accepted at the residents' drop-off. A remodel, a roof or a big clean-out goes in a container.

Is Hatcity Dumpster Rentals part of the City of Danbury?

No. Hat City is Danbury's nickname. We're a private roll-off company with a yard in Brookfield, with no City affiliation.
